AP Thesis: Chronesthesia

Chronesthesia

Chronesthesia is a concentrated portfolio of artwork exploring the concept of time and the human struggle against its constant passage. This collection was created as my AP Studio Art thesis in my senior year of high school. Explore the collection of artwork below and click on individual images for an expanded view.

Time as we know it today is an intricate system of hours, days and weeks that, although engineered by mankind, seems only to work against us. In a modern world of deadlines, time management struggles and crippling anxiety, humanity's relationship with the passage of time demands to be redefined. What does a clock or calendar really have to do with the grand concept of time? How can we grapple with time's infinite nature with unpredictable, finite lifetimes? Does the past or future exist, or is eternity only experienced through fleeting present moments?

"Obsessive Compulsion"

As the centerpiece of the Chronesthesia collection and what I regard as my own masterpiece, "Obsessive Compulsion" is a three-foot by three-foot acrylic painting of my own complex visualization of time. In other words, it is a painting of the calendar in my mind.

"Obsessive Compulsion" was the product of a year of planning and over two months of active painting. It is by far the most artistically challenging and personally cathartic project I have ever undertaken. Take a look at photos I took throughout the creation process to see how it came together.

Concept Art

The following were additional pieces made for my AP Studio Art thesis which touched a wide variety of themes and abstract visualizations of time. While not as artistically stunning as the artwork above, this concept art gives a further glance into my exploration of time through different styles.
